Returns

Due to the nature of magic singles, Game Theory does not accept returns for magic singles with only the following exceptions for in-store orders. Returns will be made at our discretion if the cards have not left our store.

-If you have purchased cards you did not order, simply inform us and we will accept a return.

-The condition does not match what it was listed at. In this case, we can give you a full refund or refund you the difference if you wish to keep the card you ordered.

-If you decide you do not need the cards (ie you found you already had the card you needed or someone had one for trade instead), we can accept a return assuming you have not already played with the card before it left our store.

Buying policy

Due to the nature of Magic singles, all buylists submitted to Game Theory must be brought in or shipped to us within 10 days of us approving your buylist. All buylists not received within 10 days of us approving the buylist will be canceled unless you have arranged otherwise. If you have provided your contact information, we will notify you by phone or email 24-48 hours before your sell order expires.

Cards that do not match the edition or finish as it was on the buylist submitted will be returned. Alternatively, we may choose to buy them for their corresponding price at our discretion. Similarly, any cards we received that were not on your buylist will be returned. Any cards on your buylist that we do not receive will be removed from the buylist.

All cards on a buylist will be graded and priced accordingly. In some cases, we may reject a card if it is not NM-Mint even if it was on our buylist. After the grading process, we will notify you with the new total for the amount of the buylist (if any adjustments were made). If you requested cash, we will write you a check for the amount. If you requested paypal, we will send you the amount via paypal (please make sure your paypal address is accurate). If you have requested store credit, you will get an additional 10% percent added to the total, and the amount will be put onto your account in our POS system in-store.

By our sole discretion, we reserve the right to cancel or change your order for any reason. In the unlikely event that we cancel or change your order we will attempt to notify you by phone or email.

Grading Policy

Conditions of Magic cards can differ due to many factors. Generally, cards in better conditions are worth more than cards in lesser condition. As such, we have created the following guide lines for conditions and grading for our store. Although condition if often subjective, Game Theory does its best to list cards by their appropriate condition.

NM-Mint – ‘NM’ stands for near mint. Game Theory does not have a 'Mint' category; cards in Mint condition will be taken as NM-Mint. Cards in this condition possess little to no flaws and are essentially indistinguishable between other cards in the same condition. Note that Game Theory does not do detailed grading such as services provided by Beckett Grading Services or Professional Sports Authenticator.

Light Play – Cards under this category will have at least one of the following. Most of these features may not be noticeable at first glance but under careful inspection definitely show without a sleeve.

-several noticeable, but small scratches or marks in the surface or edges.

-noticeable, but only slight wear in the gloss finish on the card on either side

-noticeable, but only slight bends or curves in the card in various places due to play

-minor indentations such as binder marks (usually from the ring of a binder)

-small amounts of dirt on the surface

-slight warping or curling

-slight cloudiness in the foil finish

Moderate Play – Cards under this category will have at least one of the following. Most of these can be spotted at first glance from across the table un-sleeved.

-Several noticeable scratches or marks in the surface or edges.

-major wear in the gloss finish of a card

-noticeable bends in the card in various spots due to play

-significant indentations in the card surface

-dirt on the card surface

-noticeable, but not significant wear on the edge.

-major warping or curling for foil cards

-significantly cloudy or blemishes in the foil finish

-All moderate play cards in our system are still sleeve-playable.

Heavy Play – Cards under this category will have at least one of the following and can usually be spotted un-sleeved from across the table.

-Significant edge wear, may have slightly rounded or frayed corners.

-Significant amount of scratching, blemishes, and dirt on the surface or edges.

-Possess little to no gloss finish on either surface of the card.

-Major bending in certain areas, possibly lightly creased or beginning to crease in said areas.

-May or may not be sleeve playable depending on the flatness of the card.

-In the case of foils, may have slight peeling, bubbling, or creasing in the foil finish.

Damaged – Cards under this category must have at least one of the following. If a card does not have one of these features, it will not be considered Damaged. If it is damaged, but still playable in a sleeve and is a significant magic single (because it is still flat and not majorly creased or folded) we may still purchase it. Otherwise, we do not buy or sell damaged cards.

-Major creasing/folding.

-Marked as a proxy (this excludes checklist cards)

-Any noticeable amount of water damage.

-Severely warped or bent cards.

-Rips, tears, or stains.

-May or may not be sleeve playable depending on the flatness of the card.

Unique cards

International/Collector's Edition cards – These cards are generally identifiable by a gold border or square corners. Game Theory generally deals with these cards on an individual basis, however, most of these will be in our inventory under their correct category with their appropriate pricing. These cards are graded as usual. If you have wish to buy or sell cards to us that fall under this category and have any concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Signed cards/stamped cards – Cards that are signed by their respective artist will be sold/bought under the condition they would be had they not been signed. Cards signed by someone other than the artists (such as pro players or other significant magic players in the community) will be downgraded by one condition they would be graded at otherwise. Cards that are ink-stamped as the result of being played in a large scale limited event will be downgraded by one condition they would be graded at otherwise. Due to the limitations of crystalcommerce, signed/stamped cards are not indicated in our system and will be listed among their normal counterparts. If a card falls under this category and you attempt to order it we will notify you.

Miscut/Misprint cards Game Theory will buy or sell most misprint or miscut cards at our discretion.  Generally, if they are sleeve playable we will buy/sell them. Game Theory values miscut/misprint cards at the same price as their normal counterparts.

Altered cards – Due to the wide variety of altered cards and their playability, we do not sell or buy altered cards.

Foreign Language cards – Game Theory buys and sells most foreign language cards for the same price as their english counterparts with a few exceptions (Italian Legends, Foreign Black-Border 3rd Edition, etc.). If you have foreign language cards, you may submit them as their English counterpart on our buylist. They will be graded as normal and, if any changes are necessary, the total will be adjusted.

Proxy/Fake cards – As part of being a DCI sanctioned store for Magic and for the merit and legitimacy of the game, Game Theory does not buy or sell proxy/fake cards. If any cards sold to us are deemed as fake we will notify you with the reasons an item was determined as fake, remove them from the order, and return them to you.
